We are a small kennel located in Topeka, Kansas. Our kennel name comes from combining "Ju" from Julie and "ell" from Russell. We started out in 2000 with a single pet collie we purchased from Helen Cornio of Milen's collies. He was a sable merle named Milen's Politically Incorrect "Charlie". Within a year we added a second that was our first "show" collie. It was quite a learning experience. At the time we lived on a golf course with split rail fencing and chicken wire to keep the dogs in. That only lasted until 2005 when we built our current kennel and home in that order.
Our first champion came from Steve and Lisa Finken of Tapestry collies, CH. Tapestry Deacon Blues "Nick". As we were still learning the ropes, we sent Nick out with Laurie Jeff Greer and she worked her magic. Laurie Jeff went on to finish several more of our collies, CH Juell's Ruby Tuesday "Jill", and CH Milen's Princess Kate "Katie" to name a few.
Our first owner handler finished champion was CH Juell's Promise of Milan "Buddy". He picked his first major under the esteemed judge Tom Coen and finished with a second specialty major under the late judge Fran McNamee.
We are at heart preservation breeders, with the goal for each litter to enhance the breed focusing on health, temperament, structure, head detail, and expression. It is imperative our collies go to loving forever homes no matter if the destination is a couch or the show ring. We strongly believe in DNA health testing as a tool to guide our breeding program.
Felicia started her journey with Juell's Collies at a very young age. Felicia's family moved to Topeka when she was in kindergarten and quickly bonded with our collies. We joked her first collie puppy's legs never touched the ground as she was always in her arms. Not long after that she began to go to dog shows with us and started in AKC Junior Handling where she excelled. It was this experience that helped her go from a shy young girl to a very confident young woman. She learned to overcome adversity, as in dog shows you have to handle the losses with as much grace as the wins. Cherish the wins, learn from the losses. As a junior handler she was asked to handle a veteran dog at CCA Nationals that she had never met. The professional handler backed out at the last minute leaving the owner in a bind. Felicia gladly accepted the challenge and not only won the veteran class with him, she handled him to an Award of Merit.
Felicia has just completed her Master's Degree in Animal Science and Behavior: Canine and Feline Health and Care while working at Purina. This was also done while having her first child and her first litter, both delivered on the same day. She is also a certified judge for AKC Canine Good Citizen testing.
In 2023 we asked Felicia to formally join Juell's Collies and began the process of adding her as co-owner on any girl we planned on breeding. We are very proud of all Felicia has accomplished,
CH Tapestry Heir Jordan x CH Tapestry Silver Spring
CH Tartanside Allegiance ROM x CH Milen's Promise To Play
CH Blu Ridge State of Mind "Billy" x Twin City Theophany “Theo”
Anna has set the standard of our vision for our collies. Her sweet expression combined with her exquisite head detail, top line, flowing coat, and eye catching outline exemplifies our interpretation of the collie standard. We are very thankful to Dona Williams, and Taylor Lafferty for their exceptional presentation of Anna through the years. We are humbled and honored by the many awards presented to Anna by many of the elite breeder judges in collies.
